An Organization for Active Citizenship and Development

Shokriyo is a registered social enterprise incorporated in Bangladesh (Reg. No. C-206285). Shokriyo promotes Active Citizenship and establishes effective communication between the citizens and the government to build a just, prosperous, peaceful, inclusive, and democratic nation.

Shokriyo is an organization of dreamers, doers, thinkers, and leaders dedicated to achieving positive social and economic impact. We connect with partners, government agencies, the private sector, NGOs, and citizens to design and implement Social Action Projects.

Active Citizenship

Active citizenship can refer to a broad range of activities, including petitioning; protesting; campaigning; voting; and volunteering for charities. It fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility, leading to positive societal change and improved quality of life. Volunteering lies at the heart of active citizenship. There are many benefits to active citizenship. A face-to-face meeting with neighbours can create a sense of community and belonging.

Why Active Citizenship

Please find below the reasons why we need more active citizens.

Shokriyo Student Hubs

Shokriyo Student Hubs seeks to enable all students to participate in social and environmental challenges during their education. It exists to empower university students to become active citizens, equipping them with the tools, behaviours, and skills they need to make a positive change.

Our initiatives are a bridge between students and their communities, building connections and mainstreaming student social action to create active citizens for life. Shokriyo Student Hubs’ theory of change speaks to active citizenship, and we see immediate and long-term benefits for students and community.

This work requires meaningful dialogue to be effective, as well as an understanding of local communities and the social issues and contexts that they face on a day-to-day basis. We need to work with partners and we need to have a whole university approach.
